What to consider when choosing tires for different seasons

all-season tires

When choosing tires it is important to consider what kind of driving and what kind of conditions you will be facing. There is a need to consider whether you want one set of tires to be used all year-round or if the fact of changing tires during the year can be considered.  The main reason people change tires is that they want to optimize the performance during both winter and summer. This is important if you live in an area with severe winters where winter tires are clearly the best option. Whether you choose non-studded tires or studded tires they remain the best option for superior grip and traction on snow and ice. The studded outperform non-studded on ice and hard packed snow.

If you want one set of tires for the whole year, then the all-weather tires can handle both summer and winter conditions, as long as they are approved for winter use. If they are, they will have the three peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, like winter tires on the sidewall. This indicates that they have met the required performance criteria in snow testing and are thereby considered severe service emblem. It isn’t enough to have the Mud and Snow (M+S) rating, which just indicates that the tread is designed to create traction on both mud and snow.  On the other hand, if you reside in an area with no real winter season you are able to invest in all-season tires for all year-round use. Just make sure that your all-season tires have excellent dry and wet grip and are good at preventing aquaplaning. Just make sure that you don’t drive with all-season tires when you don’t have tires that are approved for it.
